February 20th, 2012 - Stop The Snow,
Stop The Snow, Stop The Snow! |
Hello Friends,
As I look out the window of the October
Road Studio/Office, I see that snow has
finally decided to fall again here in
Fargo. With no ill will towards my
snowmobiling friends, and myself being
an avid skiier, I must demand that this
snow stop falling post haste! We've made
it to every show so far this Winter,
gliding across North Dakota and
Minnesota on dry pavement with clear
skies in every direction, and we'd like
to keep it that way!
February has brought us a run of great
shows, with enthusiastic audiences,
which has a proven to be a much needed
boost of energy to the band! We debuted
two new originals this past weekend and
both went over amazingly well. The boost
of creativity that Mike and Patio have
brought to the band has expanded my own
lyrical abilities after years of
basically writing the same style of song
over, and over again. Who'd have thought
October Road would ever be capable of
writing a funk song? Not me! But we
have, and so far, people are loving it!
This week we're adding two more
originals to the song list, and will be
adding two more next week before diving
back into cover songs for the month of
March!
Our Summer is nearly completely booked
with just a handful of openings left,
and we'll be making final decisions on
the remainder of our Spring openings
this week as well, so hopefully we
should be fully booked through August
within the next two weeks. For guys who
count on a full schedule for our
livlihoods, it's certainly very calming
to see that band taking off again,
seeing, and feeling a level of success
we haven't experienced for a couple of
years.
This coming week is going to be epic for
October Road! We head back to the Burnt
Creek Club is Bismarck, ND for two
nights! The BCC is one of our long time
favs, and owners Jeff and Lori never
fail to show us an amazing time! For
Joe, Mike, and myself, we'll also be
taking part in a poker tournement on
Saturday afternoon with over 25 friends
for all around ND! Music, Poker,
Alchohol . . .and it's all part of my
"job." Dear Lord, please don't pinch
me!!!
That's about all I have for this week's
update, although I see that the snow is
starting to pick up a little bit
outside. Ugh!
Come on out this weekend, or to a show
near you very soon and say hello!
Sincerely,
Shawn |
